updated 5/26/2003 4:19:00 PM :: bbs list updates
i've gone through the bbs list and figured its about time to purge some dead systems. the victems of the delete key were as follows: cold fusion, DEFiLE BBS, DODGER BBS, Powerrage, Sector 7, the holy bong and elixer.

.:. the point .:.
the list
was started in an attempt to provide a resource to all of the sysops out there dedicated enough to run a board... ok, well maybe some of them aren't as dedicated as others, considering that there are plenty of lame systems out there, let alone websites dedicated to them. the list is hopefully one place where you'll be able to avoid all that garbage.

.:. a bit of history .:.
time has moved on and dialup bbs's (the things we all knew and loved at one point in time or another) have almost ceased to exist -- those dialup system that are left truly aren't worth your time (at least the ones i've seen).  what was once a staple of the underground community, the source of all your warez and your on-line gaming experience, is no more -- but then again, who would want to download the latest ISO using z-modem and a 28.8 connection, or play LORD as opposed to the latest first person shooter or real time strategy game anyway?  the internet has replaced certain aspects of the traditional dialup board with modern (and in my opinion, better) resources.  still, certain other aspects are lacking, and there are those of us who yearn to re-live some of the old-school experience -- anyone that was ever really into what i'll call "the scene" back in the day of the dialup boards knows exactly what i'm referring to.

having spent a fair bit of time online qsd, alliance tele-confs and running/calling codelines at one point in time of my life, the dialup bbs was an invaluable resource for the exchange of information.  basically, there were two kinds of systems back then.... the kind joe user, (who was looking to downloaded the latest shareware title) called, and "elite systems" which either required you to take some kind of knowledge test like "what does RZR-911 stand for?" or have another user already on the system vouch for you.  it should be no surprise that there was a fair amount of questionable activity that transpired on a lot of these underground systems.
